The two broad types

Term vs. permanent coverage

Nearly every life insurance decision starts with one question: do you want coverage for a defined period, or for life?

Term

Coverage lasts a set number of years. It is generally the least expensive way to hold a larger amount of protection during the years a family depends on your income.

Permanent (whole or universal)

Designed to stay in force for life as long as it is funded as intended, and typically builds cash value over time. Universal designs allow more flexibility; whole life is more fixed.

Why people apply

Common reasons families look at coverage

Income replacement, so a household can keep going without the earnings it depends on. Final expenses, so a funeral is not paid for out of savings or by children. Leaving something behind, whether that is a gift to family or to a church. Covering a mortgage, so the home is not at risk.

Most people are somewhere in more than one of those, and the mix is what shapes the type and amount of coverage that makes sense. To speak with a licensed insurance agent, call (662) 210-2200. TTY: 711.

Cost

How coverage amount and cost are generally determined

Cost generally comes down to four things: your age, your health as the carrier evaluates it, the amount of coverage you apply for, and the type of coverage you choose. Tobacco use and, for some carriers, driving record or occupation may also be considered.

No one can promise an outcome before an application is reviewed. We are straightforward about that — we help you assemble a sensible application and explain the decision the carrier returns.
