Cancer & Critical Illness
Supplemental coverage designed to help with the costs a cancer or critical illness diagnosis can bring.

What it does
This type of coverage pays a benefit when a covered condition is diagnosed. Unlike a health plan, it does not pay a hospital for a procedure — it pays you, and you decide where the money goes.
In practice, households use it for the costs a diagnosis brings that no medical bill lists: deductibles and coinsurance, travel and lodging for appointments at a treatment center, help at home, or simply keeping the household bills paid while income is disrupted.
How it differs
Your major medical plan or Medicare coverage remains the coverage that pays for treatment. This is an additional layer on top of it.
That distinction matters. A supplemental policy is not a substitute for having real health coverage, and no one should drop or decline major medical coverage because they hold one. What it does is soften the financial side of a diagnosis that health insurance was never designed to address.
Fit
People with a family history of cancer or another critical illness often ask about it first, because they have watched what a diagnosis costs a household beyond the medical bills.
Others simply want an extra layer of financial protection behind their main health coverage — particularly households with a higher deductible, or anyone whose income would be interrupted if they could not work for several months.
