The basics
Final expense coverage is a whole life policy sized for a specific job: helping cover funeral, burial, and other end-of-life costs so the people you leave behind are not paying out of pocket.
Because the purpose is narrow, the face amount is smaller than a traditional policy, and the benefit is paid to the beneficiary you name to use as needed.
Comparison
The differences are mostly about size and how you qualify.
Coverage is sized around final costs rather than replacing years of household income.
Many policies ask health questions instead of requiring an exam, and some ask none at all. That matters for older applicants or health conditions that make larger policies harder to qualify for.
These are whole life policies, so the coverage does not expire at the end of a term as long as premiums are paid.
Uses
Families most often apply the benefit to funeral and burial costs, outstanding medical bills, and small remaining debts. Because it is paid to your beneficiary rather than to a provider, they decide how to use it.
We describe these uses generically on purpose — actual costs vary widely by family and by choice of arrangements. To speak with a licensed insurance agent, call (662) 210-2200. TTY: 711.
Fit
The most common reason people ask about it is simple: they do not want their family absorbing a bill during the worst week of their lives.
It comes up most for people who do not already have life insurance in place, or whose existing coverage ended with a term or with a job. If you are not sure what you still have, we will review it with you first.
